The solar system is under attack from

WHAT'S THE
VERDICT?

The light gun Is a good Idea. But without
good garrws to go with It, ifll remain a
gimmick to be dtimped in the cdlaf
Either enough people splash out thie
thirty pounds lor il lo encourage soft*
ware houses to produce decent cnter-

invest In produdng better gam^ tor it

At the momeni, f^ookk is the ofily one

worth iiying, but otherwbe the Sinclair

Dever a great writer, but he also knows
how to invem \m of strange pbi^
names like Kazaft-Gor, a lovnr ing

Oh, I csn*t b« doing wHh this heati Ludlow hai nav^r b«en ao

so s!op using CFCs everyone. I wouldn't mind all the sunny
weather, but t don't get a Ian, 1 Just go all red and blotchy, but
that's Ufa I suppose (no I won't do any Esther Ranlzen Jokes). If
you aren't keen on the sun then ypu can stay indoors and read
this month's corruscaling tips. I've got soma juhcy PQKEs on ths
cover cassette all ready lo run, moytti watering tips on Navy
Moves and Times Of Lore, plus a succulent map of Dizzy — The
Crash Edition and fun, lun, lun!

I'm still scouring lire k^cal rags for the perfect car, bul It's
almost tmpossibte to flrtd one in my price range {about EiO!}, So
l( any of you know where I can get a Porsche 944 fof a coupte of

TIMES OF LORE

Fantastic, a complete Mitition
to this enchanting game.
Perhaps Sklppy and me can
convplete it now, and stop
pulling our hair out (you should
Me Sklppy bald, ha!). The life
aaver betiind this masterpiece
It Andy Gledhill of Kings Lynn,
and I'm going to give him £40
of software for his efforts.

Before you start, it* s imporiant
not to kil\ any of the town and vil-
[ag« people, as this makes it
Impossible lo cornpjete your
quest. You begin upstairs in the
inri at Era Ian. Go downstairs and
talk to the prior, who tells you
about the Forte! ling Stori&s,
Answer yes to his question, then
talk to everybody in the inn for
more inform ationi.

Leaving the inn, follow the path
to the right and turn north into the
Dark Forest. Foitow the path.
killing anything that gets in your
way. Pick up any objects dropped
by the ores and th^ archers, Usos
of objects are as follows: Red
Scroll kills enemy in immedlaia
vicinity. Blue Scroll paralyses
enemy in vicinity. Greerr and Blue
Potbns restore your stamina.

On the path you will come to a
hut. Look around here for the
woodsman. Talk to him. and he Jl
tell you the way to th© ores' camp
where the stones are. Follow the

32 ■ CRASH AUGUST

path until yokj oome lo the pond.
Go rvorlh from here and follow the
winding path through the woods
to the ores' camp in a clearing.
Kill the ore in ihe middle of the
camp and pick up the stones..

Now go back the way you came
to the inn at Era tan. Give the prior
the stones, he'll ihankfutly tell you
to visit the Regent.

Enter the castle at Fralan to
see the Regent Dariai. and agree
to recover the Tat>let Of Truth
from Ganestor. Go south to
Lankweil first. 8uy the magic axe
from the serf, this will allow you to
kill from a distarvce. saving a bt of
stamina.

Now go east across the de$en
lo Ganesto/. W you ask questbns
around the town, you'll frnd OMt
the location of a secret funnel into
the castle there. Visit the inn and
go downstairs behind the bar,
enter th« room with the small red
square on the wail Walk into the
square to reveal the stairs to the
castle.

Climb to the next floor, avoiding
all the guards, and find ihe room
in the centre. Kill the guard from a
distance with the axe, then go left
into another room, where you'll
find Ihe Tabtet Of Truth. PkM the
tablet up, and it will speak: ask it
about the High King, and it will tell
you the King was killed by an
assassin, who can be found in

LankwelL Leave the tablet and
ralurn to Ihe secret tunnel.

Now go back to the inn at
LankwelL Find the thug and ask
him about the assassin, you'll dis-
cover he's called the Black Asp.
Gki to the house furthest west,
and the serf there will tell you
where to find Ihe assassin. Go
south from Lankweil across (he
bridge to the Black Asp's house.
Ask him about the High King, artd
he' II tell you OarJal the Regent
hired him to kill hint. He'll give you
a confession to tak« to 1tt4
Steward Heidric at Ganestor.

Go to Ganeetor, into the castle
again via the tunnel and up to the
top floor avoiding all the guards to
find thte steward. Give him the
confession arrd he'll tell you of a
spy in Ganesior and ask you to
find him. Go outside and wait by
the castle doors unthi mghifall. A
guard shoukl appear and walk
into the castie, follow him. When
questioned the guard will reveal
himself to t>e the spy. Kill him and
pick up the note, take the note to
Heidrk: the steward as pnxif d
the spy's deaths

How the steward will lell you his
son was kidnaf^>ed in Hampton.
Go to Hampton and talk to the
Duke to find the kidnappers. Find
the caslle east of Hampton, kill
the kidnappers and release the
steward's son. Here you'll also
find the Green Scroll which can
transport you anywhere in the
kingdom. The steward's son wiil
tell you to visit the Arch mage
across a bridge north of the
Enchanted Forest.

The Arch mage warits you to kill
the Lk:ha in the desert before he
tells you how to get the medallion.
So go to the inn directly south of
the Enchanted Forest and speak
to the Sfargazer, who reveals that

to kill a Ltche you must use >oly
water from Friar Kasne. Travtl to
Rhyder and buy soma from tie
friar, then go to the middle of the
desert and find the rums.

tn the ruins a secret door t^at
ieads undergrourvd. Here yoi
have to operate a set ot tboi
prftssufe pads to open doors in
the CTjmplex, Trial and error
shoukJ eventual^ lead you i& the
liche. Use the holy water to <\\\
the Liche and pk:k up the HED
potion, Now return to the
Archmage.

He tells you that you that the
evil clerics at the Temple Of
Angor havA got the medalliofl,
and Id get Into Angor you'll n&ed
the Charm from the volcano. To
get the Charm, go to the volcano
where you lind another under-
ground complex. Operate another
set of pressure pads and you
shoukf find the Charm.

Go to the Temple Of Ango- and
use the Charm to open the door.
Go to the top fbor and the room
with the single bed Go to the bed
and pick up the Flask. Nowfirvd
the abtx>t and kill htm using the
flask b«lore he drains away dlj
your stamina. Pick up the medal-
Ion, and you have completed the
ganwl

General J\pt

Stay at mns at regular intervals
to replenish your stamina.

Other objects of use are: Magic
Boots from a serf in TreeJa, which
allow you to run instead of walk,
and a Mage Ring

found if you Ml the giant east of
Rhyder This rtng will altow you to
become invisible for a short peri^
od of time, which is useful to
avoid the guards in the castle of
Ganestor.

ghostbusllng gam* yet, that's
probably because t get so sick
ot 17)# R00i Gt\0$t^o$t0fs at
home, with my brother almost
fainting *f you even mention the
word ghost! Anyway, here are
soma tips ofL each level from
Lawrence Pycock of Cox heath In
Kent

Lenll

• Take the left way. it's easier.

• When bts of nastias a|3paar in
ffOr>t of you, turn a/ound and QO
tuck so they are out ot screen.
Now go back to where they were,
and they will have disappeared!

• The b*Sl thing to do with the
end of level ghoul is f ira at him
before he comes into range. He
will Ihen walk into the beeum.
When he siaris finng at you,
move backwards and repeat the
process until he's destroyed.

• Don't use the iwo player option
a$ the game becomes harder.

Uvsl3

• Kill alt the worms. One of them
ho ids slimer, and you need him to
help kill the bats.

• With the end of level baddie,
make sure his eye is going diago-
nally, then fire at him toads, and
bingo 1

• From the beginning take the
first three brk^es on the left, then
swap over and take the two on

the right. K the end of level baddie
is getting too vicious, go down the
ladder on the left, and back up to
calm him down.

LSWIS

• Take the left hand rout«.

• Most of the mummies are in
their coffins, so watch out.

• tt you come to an area with
kiads of baddies, do the tridi<
explained on level t ,

• You can'1 shoot The baddies in
the lake.

• Positbn yourself out of range
of the claws and take them out
one at a time.

• The eye thing ies |technk:al

JACK THE
NIPPER

C2.99 (rerelesse)

Kl»

He's wicked, he's evil, he's
Jack The fyippef! This is
the first of the series, the itc-
ond being CocoflUl Capert,
and one of the better full price
games on the Spectrum in
19fi6. It hasn't lost ^y ptaya-
bility in the time, and fo< peo-
ple who haven't played it, the
puzzles wjil bring hours of fun.

Jacic is a naught Jtttle boy
who tJkBs notfiing belter than
to pop around the com^ to
the local poke station and
cayse a riot by shooting his
pea stVH>ter at the policemen
and tooting his horn at (he sta*
tion cat. The ob^ of the
game ts to j^e as naughty at
possible (siiwuldn't be hard for
most of you! ).

Various objtcte can be
picked up amumf the town and
have drastic effects when
dropped in certain placet or
thrown ai something. A
naughtyometer, along the bot-
lOFn of the sQT^m^ nueasuree
how bad Jack hai beeit. Reach

100%jnd the game is com*
plete.

All sprite in Jack The
NIppef are cartoon-style, so
the game is jusi like walking
into your favourite comic. The
main play area Is nnonochrome
of varying hues on each
screen, plus iho bonus of
posters, lights, etc around the
town in glorious technicolour!

The way the game has been
put logethef is excellent, with
your nappy- rash counter
going up wt^enevef you touch
a goody goody,
and one ol the little Jacks ai
the bottom of the screen being
spanked wtun the rash is on
M. Jack Tlte Nipfw is a f^-
tasiic game, and even on rere-
lease deserves a $masli rating.

ENDURO
RACER

£2.39 atne Hit Squad
(nrelease)

This orw's ancient, but it's
stillaconter^derforthe
b^ Specif urn face game ever.

As I remember, it was the first
racer to use the hill technique,
and the jumps have never been
repeated successfully since.
Rev that bike and take ri
through all the levels, over
dusty mountain trackSn tarmac
courses and desert trails. You
have to complete each track
within the sei lime limit to
progrns on to the next level.

Enduro Racer isn't the easi-
est oJ biking games. I still find
I <tirficuri to get past the third
level (birt that says more aboui
my game playing ^hilt, I sus-
pect!] Gamepiay retains a big
challenge throughout — and
still k>oks and plays well after
ail these years, which cant be
bad! Great lun, graphically
impressive and varied, well
worth buying, especially on
budget.
